If you've been following HT's tech over the last couple of years, you'd know we've reported on several K-series engine swaps that are becoming more common in the scene, and maybe some that aren't so common. We've done K's in a few generations of Civics, Integras, and Accords, and have material coming for a K into a Fit. We've even done the K into a CRX, similar to what we'll be showing you in this story.

Where this project differs is in the objective. Most of those other swaps were for cars that at least were implicitly multipurpose, splitting time between street utility and track shenanigans. This time around, Hasport wanted to take the gloves off and put together a screaming little racer.

The goal is to drop a built K20A2 RSX Type S mill into Hasport's 1990 CRX to race in either NASA's Honda Challenge or SCCA's Honda Cup. Originally the Hasport crew was looking to hit the time attack comp at a recent GT Live in Arizona, but they ran out of time. That said, other time attacks in the future are not out of the question for the Rex.

The hatchback is formerly an SCCA Improved Touring class (ITA) racecar, and during that time was powered by its stock D16A6. The year before last Hasport had a B18C installed in it and loaned it out for a Honda Challenge race. Because it was a racecar in a past life, the chassis was already caged with an Autopower 6-point, weld-in roll cage. Additionally, to compensate for the added weight of the bigger motor, as well as prep the CRX for the rigors of a race pace, the suspension has been entirely upgraded with a set of Progress coilovers.

For many, this story will be a rehash of the one we brought you last year. Wherever possible, though, we've tried to point out how this swap has changed since we last brought it to you.
