The New Mugen Civic Si - It's Here

The Long Awaited Mugen Edition Si Sedan Hits Showrooms This Month

If you've been waiting for the most exclusive USDM Civic ever, wait no more. As you read this, 1,000 of these puppies are getting their finishing touches.

The regular Civic Si sedan is, in our opinion, one of the best Hondas ever to be released to the U.S. domestic market. It has all the pep of the Si Coupe, plus two extra doors to convince police and potential girlfriends that you are an upstanding member of society (yes ladies, it goes the other way too. A quick office pole showed that the gold digging guys here would check you out if you drove an Si sedan). What's even better than the potential for social deception, is that four-door Si's are rumored to be selling for less than the two-door. Apparently, the demand for Si Coupes continues to support monster dealer markups. This leaves the Civic Si sedan number one on our list of things to pick up at the Honda dealership. (That, and a couple squash scented air fresheners -AH). For some of you though, an Si just isn't enough.

You're probably having trouble reading this. The Mugen badge on that wing is making you salivate. That little "Without Limit" Kanji logo is a powerful thing. You already know about the racing history and that Honda sells limited edition Mugen versions of its cars straight out of Japanese dealerships. You've heard the rumors that this car was coming and just want the nitty gritty on what is included and how much it costs. Let's break it down.

For the most part this is a cosmetic package. Exterior body panels include a Mugen front lip, grille, side skirts, rear bumper diffuser and rear wing. The wheels are 17 pound 18x7.5 forged aluminum pieces from Mugen. Tires are 215/40 BFG KDW's. The interior sports a Mugen shift knob and center console badge. Aside from the tires, the only performance upgrades are a Mugen cat back exhaust and a spring/strut package that lowers the car by .6 of an inch with slightly stiffer damping and spring rates.

The price of the Mugen edition Si sedan has not yet been released. The only official word is that it will retail for less than $30,000. As steep as that sounds, anyone who's ever tried to piece a car together using genuine Mugen parts knows how expensive this stuff is. Considering that everything is color matched and installed, it's actually fairly reasonable, as long as you like the Fiji Blue Pearl paint.
