Nothin' Like Chinatown Showoff For Getting Psyched On Another Year Of West Coast Car Shows - Honda Tuning Magazine.
Chinatown Showoff has long been the unofficial start of the show season in Southern Cali. While it isn't by any means the first of the year-that title usually goes to a Hot Import Night-Chinatown marks the point when the season is considered to be in full swing. By the end of February, the anticipation of spring, and the good weather that comes with it, has everybody scrambling to finish new builds or refresh old ones. It's always an exciting event because it sets the bar for the rest of the year.
A bit smaller than Chinatowns of years past, this year's lighter turnout for the show still seemed to have a great time. All of the usual suspects came out; most of them didn't bring their cars because of top-secret rebuild projects set to drop later in the year. Indeed, this year's show season looks promising. The few guys that got a jump on the rest of us and made it out to California are already showing what is to be expected for the upcoming season. Want a hint? Put your interior back in and pay very close attention to your engine bay.
The highlight of the event had to be our illegal U-turn to roll up behind a group of bike cops in the loudest supercharged S2K of all time, and scaring the life out of them. We can only imagine that they were so confused by the driver with pink hair and piercings piloting such a cacophonic and obnoxious car that they forgot to bust him for the U-turn and complete insult to CARB legality that is our S2K.
